From my garden studio in Chorleywood, I create oil paintings based on the effects of time passing and the elements. I gained a BA (Hons) in 2004 and since then I have exhibited widely in the local area and in Europe. I “collect” themes and subject matter for painting, and these tend to continue to absorb me, so subjects are continually being explored and revisited in an ongoing process. These are often worn and weathered objects, landscapes and cityscapes, with subjects such as trees, fences, books, buildings, chairs, shoes, freshly observed as new ‘discoveries’ in other countries and cultures, as well as more familiar subjects found close to home. My subjects and the painting process reflect our human experience of being in the world, with many works becoming more like ‘portraits’. Our own transience and the ageing process means that works are often inspired by the continual process of decline and decay. I am an art tutor at DRUM Watford, a centre for people with physical disabilities.
