Kate Watkins
I grew up with a passion for landscapes and nature, which I have developed through water colours and oil paintings during my career as a professional artist. I have exhibited successfully in Devon, Lancashire, Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire and in New Hampshire, USA. My sales are in the UK and as far afield as Australia and New Zealand. Recent exhibitions have included oils and watercolours of the water meadows near my home in Thame and oil paintings inspired by travels in Namibia. Some of my work responds to the countries visited on my travels, such as the dry desert landscapes of Australia and Africa. Much is more local – the woods, rivers and meadows of Oxfordshire. I enjoy using colour, looking for pattern and textures in landscape. The subject often dictates the way I paint and the materials that I use. My chief subject is the natural world. I have recently rediscovered printing and I have extended my technical skills in that field My subjects have mainly been birds – once again searching for shape, pattern and texture. I also enjoy working with a group of artists, studying from life models and experimenting with mixed media. Having trained in Fine Art at Canterbury College of Art, at Reading and Exeter Universities, I taught art for many years in a variety of schools and colleges. I am now an independent artist, concentrating on developing my skills and – always – the quality of my work.
If you would like to see more of my work by visiting my studio in Thame, you will be very welcome.
