Submitted work must NOT have been previously exhibited at a BAS exhibition at this location.
All work must be delivered to the venue ready to hang or stand.
If entering unframed work the artist must provide a browser but be aware that BAS reserves the right to use the browser for more than one artist.
Browsers must be brought, labelled with the artist’s name, on the hanging day.
All greetings cards must be individually wrapped and labelled showing name of artist, title of picture and price (which must be the same for all cards). Members are also requested to provide their own small stand or basket for displaying their cards.
Artists must remove all protective packing materials prior to handing in.
If any work exceeds one metre in any dimension it must be noted as such on the entry form. Every effort will be made to hang or display all selected work but larger work can only be included if space permits.
Members are reminded that they must have paid their annual subscription to qualify.
No changes can be made once entry has been submitted.
Selling Policy
In principle, all work submitted must be for sale; sales commission is an important part of the Society’s income. However, the following exceptions are permissible, subject to all other terms and conditions, with the additional proviso that all NFS work will be given low priority in the event of space limitations.
Work Not For Sale
Members and Honorary Members (only) may submit work Not For Sale, subject to the following additional conditions:
1. A maximum of 3 works NFS are permitted.
2. All NFS entries will be subject to selection and must comply with all other conditions of entry.
3. Catalogue and labels will show the work as £NFS. Please mark your entry forms accordingly.
Members (only) actively seeking Commissions may exhibit NFS work, in accordance with the conditions outlined above and below, as a means of attracting business.
1. BAS reserves the right to charge its normal sales commission on all Commissions received as a direct result of work shown at an exhibition, when that Commission is accepted within 3 months of the closure of the exhibition.
2. Commission Enquiry Forms will be available on the Sales Desk, to be completed by the enquirer, and will be passed to the relevant artist to enable them to contact the enquirer directly. BAS will retain a copy of the form for its records, but beyond that BAS plays no part, and Members are held on trust to pay the appropriate sales commission on completion of the transaction.
3. Catalogue and labels will show the work as £By Comm. Please mark your entry forms accordingly.
Paintings, drawings, sculpture and fine-art 3D work (including ceramics) and original prints (by any acceptable relief, intaglio, screen print or lithographic process) in limited editions up to 100 maximum.
Unframed signed and numbered limited edition giclée reproduction prints are allowed and must be clearly marked as such.
Artworks which incorporate photographic or digital processes as part of the artwork are permitted.
Photography and mass produced prints or reproductions of any kind are NOT permitted.
All frames must be robust, fit for purpose and strung using an appropriate picture cord, preferably nylon, securely tied to D-Rings screwed to the back of the frame, or riveted to a rigid backing board, which must be firmly secured in the back of the frame with tacks, taped over to prevent their loss. Cord or wire should be strung as tightly as possible with just enough slack to permit easy hanging. If metal wire is used the exposed ends must be wrapped with framing tape or equal to prevent damage or injury. Hanging mechanisms must be capable of safely carrying the weight of the work, and capable of being hung securely on standard pegboard hooks as used by BAS.
Frames must be of presentable appearance and of saleable quality as befitting a professional exhibition. Bare metal frames and clip-art frames are not acceptable.
All frames must be properly sealed at the back using framing tape (not masking tape) to keep out dust and to secure tacks/staples firmly in place.
If non-reflective glass is used it MUST be of museum quality.
Unframed, or box, canvases strung in accordance with the above criteria will be accepted as framed work if painted around the edges and neatly finished with no visible finger marks, holes, staples or nails etc. This requirement also applies to work presented in tray frames, where the edges are visible. Any nails or staples on the back need to be sealed with framing tape to prevent damage to other works.
Bucks Art Society reserves the right to refuse any work which is deemed unsuitable or inappropriate, or is considered to represent a risk to persons or property.
BAS will have a committee member in attendance to check compliance, and non-compliant work will be rejected.
Browser work must be suitably wrapped in cellophane or other suitable clear film. Cling-film is NOT permissible.
All framed work and all 3D work must have a label attached by string (long enough to hang over the front of the work) stating the name of the artist, title and price of the work.
ALL works, including browser works and 3D works, MUST have an adhesive label firmly fixed to the back or underside, as appropriate, stating the artist’s name and contact details*, and the title, medium and selling price of the work – in clear BLOCK CAPITALS.
*Artists may opt to affix their business card giving contact details.
Whilst every effort will be made to ensure the safety and security of the exhibition and the works in it, BAS will not accept liability for any loss or damage to artists' work whilst in the Society's possession. Submissions are left at the artist's own risk and artists must arrange their own insurance cover. The clearance of purchasers' cheques is at the artist's own risk. For the purposes of BAS public liability cover, exhibiting Non-Members will be regarded as full Members for the duration of the exhibition.
Members local to the venue are asked to distribute posters for display in local shops, offices, rail stations, window of your car etc. Additional posters and invitations will be available on request or to download as .pdf files from the website www.bucksart.co.uk. Email versions of invitations and posters will be sent out for onward distribution to members' contacts.
Members CVs/statements are displayed in the BAS Artist Information Book, which is available to view at all exhibitions. If your entry needs updating please print and send one or two A4 sheets for inclusion to Amanda Curbishley (address in Members Handbook).
We are offering a prize of up to £100 to be spent on an artwork in the exhibition, and of the winner's choice, to the first invitation to be drawn on Monday 5th May at 1pm. Please tell your guests to bring their invitation, with the relevant details filled in, and put it in the box provided.
