Jan has been painting for 25years. She lives and works in Whelpley Hill near
Chesham, Bucks.
She began her Art making using Watercolour, helped by her father, Rod Munro a
successful Watercolourist himself, and completed a City and Guilds in
Watercolour Diploma. 2000
Jan then became interested in Pastels and began teaching this media and
Watercolour to Adults. She became a member of The Pastel Society in
2015-2023, exhibiting every year at The Mall Galleries, London.
She now works mainly in Acrylic and collage to make contemporary Still Life,
Harbour scenes and landscapes and more recently Abstract works.
Jan prefers to move away from the reality of a subject by sketching and with a
playful intuitive process paints how she feels about the character of a thing or
place. Exploring the medium of paint and collage plays a large part in the
process. Sketch book work provides keys to what she likes in her mark making ,
textures and colour palette.
Inspiration comes from favourite places especially North East Scotland and
Cornwall and from treasured collected still life. History of a place or thing shown
by wearing and weathering is important to Jan and she wants to recreate this in
her painting.
Pattern is also an important element in Jan’s work as is Tonal design and
composition.
Jan has been teaching Adults for nearly 20 years. She has run weekly classes in
watercolour but now prefers to run one and two day workshops to encourage
students in the process of design and the use of collage and Acrylic.
Her work is held in various UK Galleries, private collections and she exhibits
locally in Art Society shows and art group events.
