Encouragement of art in buckinghamshire

John Heywood

I paint solely because I enjoy it; I hope others will equally enjoy the results!
Mostly I paint coastal scenes and landscapes in acrylics. What began innocently enough some 30 years ago as an interesting if challenging hobby has somehow got out of hand since.

I spent my childhood on the Atlantic coast and the love of coastal scenes has never left me. The interaction of light on water holds a particular fascination for me and is a recurring feature of my work. Our family has had a cottage in the Isles of Scilly since 1990 and I also make annual visits to the beautiful Greek Islands. The quality of the light in both places is amazing !

I have lived in Buckinghamshire for most of my life, and here I paint scenes of the Chilterns and the Thames Valley. I was elected a member of the Buckinghamshire Art Society in 1998 and was Chairman of the Society from 2003 to 2005.

I have exhibited widely for over 20 years in galleries in the Isles of Scilly, mainland Cornwall, the Home Counties, London, and in Greece. However, finally realising that I was supposed to be retired, I decided just to exhibit a little here and there as well as holding annual exhibitions at my pop-up gallery in Farnham Common.
