Gaye Willcox Norman

“Gaye has a professional background in graphic design, traditional upholstery and a lifelong passion for plants and gardening. This naturally led her to pursue her love of botanical illustration.”

Born in Wiltshire, Gaye’s family emigrated to Australia when she was a child. There she trained and worked as a Graphic Designer. Returning to the UK, she worked in a London Design studio for 12 years before moving to Oxfordshire with her husband and 2 daughters.

Here Gaye pursued an interest in Traditional Upholstery and the conservation of antique upholstered furniture. Soon becoming an expert she went on to teach the techniques of traditional upholstery for 25 years.

Her love of art, plants, gardening and landscape design has to this day been heavily influenced by her mother who was a successful artist, craftswoman and gardener in Western Australia.

Botanical painting in watercolour had been a hobby and passion for many years inspiring Gaye to enrol on the diploma course at the EGS under Helen Allen. She graduated in 2011 with a Distinction, going on to join the Oxford Botanic Garden Florilegium and becoming a member of the Buckinghamshire Art Society and Amicus Botanicus a group of graduates from the English Gardening School.

Gaye works mainly on Hot Pressed paper and Manuscript Vellum using Watercolours
