Encouragement of art in buckinghamshire

Diana Sheldon

Diana trained in Textile Design at Hornsey College of Art and from 1973 designed home textiles for Cavendish Textiles, a division of the John Lewis Partnership, later becoming an Interior Designer for contract and domestic interiors at John Lewis plc. She now works from her own studio at her home in Stewkley, Buckinghamshire.

Diana has always loved classic architectural detail, the terracotta and yellow ochres of Italy, and the unusual perspective of buildings, but it is the colours and strong shadows created by bright light on her subject matter which make her respond to it.

Her recent work involves looking very closely at the patterns in a subject, drawing on her textile background, whilst enlarging the image and introducing texture and collage to her use of watercolour.

Diana’s watercolours are to be found in private collections in London, New York, Chicago, Brisbane, Florence, Paris and in Tuscany, as well as locally in the United Kingdom.
