Encouragement of art in buckinghamshire

Dennis Syrett is a no nonsense figurative painter, whose favorite subjects range from the hustle and bustle of New York, to tropical Barbados, India, Hong Kong, the Middle East, Spain and the South of France.

He took up painting seriously in his mid-thirties and soon became well established in the art world, exhibiting at major London galleries whilst concurrently achieving membership of a number of premier national art societies. He was elected as president of the Royal Institute of Oil Painters in 2004.

Most recently Dennis was made a full member of the Society of Equestrian Artists. He celebrated the honor in style by winning the SEA’s prestigious Cuneo Medal at their annual exhibition in 2012.

This last award joins an impressive list including, most recently:

2013 – Classic Boat Award – RSMA.

2013 – John Noott Gallery Award – SEA.

  1. ‘Enjoying the Moment’ – 20”x16” – Leading the field during a Classic Boat Race off Monte Carlo.
  2. ‘Father Michael in The Studio’ – 32”x36” – Quite a coup to persuade Father Michael to sit for me. A willing sitter, culminating in a variety of further paintings.
  3. ‘Beside the London Eye’ – 30”x24” – Numerous visits, countless sketches. Composition and light were crucial.
  4. ‘Good Companions’ – 44”x32” – Bathed in sunlight two old wicker chairs recently vacated were a subject just waiting to be painted.
  5. ‘Seville Fair’ – 30”x26” – Festival of the Horse Seville. Full of colour, horses and riders immaculately turned out proved to be an endless and inspiring source of material.
  6. ‘Quayside in Lymington’ – 15”x13” – Loading supplies, wind set fair, preparing for a trip across the Solent to the Isle of Wight.
  7. ‘The Rainbow Room, New York’ – 38”x32” – As the sun sets over Lower Manhatten, an intimate dinner is enjoyed at the exclusive Rainbow Room Restaurant high up in the Rockerfeller Building.
